Research
Hi, this is Fairland, a native of the Philippines. I got my “unusual” name from a ship that my father saw while working on the seaport. I attended the University of the Philippines - Diliman, where I got my BS degree in applied physics. I later came to the University of Florida (Go Gators!) in the summer of 2001 to pursue my PhD degree from the materials science and engineering department under Dr. Laurie B. Gower. Now in the chemistry department of the University of Wisconsin – Madison (Go Badgers!), I am working on the biomimetic (mimic to biological processes) formation of metal sulfides.
